A loop that crosses every major feature of this historic mountain.

Summary

This trail explores almost every significant part of this historic mountain, ranging from deep woods with a notable glacial erratic, to the ski slopes and ski lifts, to the steep, rocky summit slopes, to the western plateau and its views over the western valley, to a brief detour that takes in a beautiful man-made pond, and a final recap of the initial "Balance Rock" trail.

The summit can be crowded and the road and parking lot can detract from your wilderness experience, but the beautiful views and (if you are lucky) the numerous sailplanes that enjoy the local updrafts, can make it a worthwhile venture.

Difficulty

The trail is steep and rough in places and can be wet. Some scrambing over rocks is required, and the length of the trail may make it problematic for young children.
