One or a set of trails that come back to or near the beginning point. Nice to hike when you have only one car.

Alpine Garden / Mount Washington Summit Loop

Low bushes and plants line the rocky trail with a red-clad figure in the distance against the brilliant blue sky.
Descend from Mt. Washington's summit, loop around the east side of the summit cone, and ascend steeply back to the summit. An all alpine hike.

Balance Rock / Old Indian / Harrington / Semuhenna

A pair of rocks, the bottom one like a steep truncated pyramid, the top one like a house, piled improbably atop each other.
A loop that crosses every major feature of this historic mountain.

Directissima / Glen Boulder / Lost Pond Loop

The author climbs on the overhanging west face of Glen Boulder.
A shallow pleasant trail leads to a steep ascent and alpine views on the shoulder of Mt Washington, followed by a descent to the 12,000 year old "Lost Pond".

Imp Face Loop

A foreground cliff and trees with the massive cone of Mt. Madison rising against a clear sky beyond.
A gentle start with a steep final climb to an exposed summit cliff. Fine views, and an extended descent.

Jones Nose AT To CCC Trail Loop

Broken clouds reveal blue sky above the field and forested hillside.
A highly varied ridge and plateau trail on the highest mountain in Massachusetts.
