Little Landscapes

A mushroom nestles orange / brown against the moss in an indentation on the side of an old tree trunk.
Miniature landscapes that reflect the larger world.

Stones: Cairns and Stairs

A narrow trail winds past a cairn toward the shattered slopes of Mt. Washington on the left and Huntington Ravine on the right, under a bright blue sky with torn white clouds.
Cairns are stone piles used to mark trails - they often have an artistic aspect to their placement in the landscape; stone stairs are often part of steeper trails.

AMC Huts

A room that may be hexagonal in shape, with brown wood siding and metal framed windows.
The Appalachian Mountain Club maintains a series of huts in the White Mountains, used by travelers and vacationers.

Such as…

...Lonesome Lake
...Lonesome Lake Hut

Anomalies

Two trees on either side of the path are arched so that their crowns actually touch the ground.
Strange stuff on the trail.

Boulders

The author climbs on the overhanging west face of Glen Boulder.
Some of the largest rocks can be found on trails. These boulders may have rolled down from an outcrop, been left behind by a glacier, or been isolated by erosion of the ground.
