Hatchett Hill - Metacomet Trail
A multiple hill section of the Metacomet, with a large gravel pit, historic stone fences, and some very old trees.

Hatchett Hill / Metacomet - Under A Broken Tree The start of the trail can be confusing. A quick right off the power line maintenance road, and then a quick left as the trail abruptly changes direction and starts to climb slightly. The trail passes under this broken tree. You can see both the footprints of a prior hiker and the markings where snow has started to fall from the tree trunk in the slightly warm sun. 12/10/2001 |

Hatchett Hill / Metacomet - Farm Stone Wall This old stone wall crosses the path and may be over a hundred years old. It marks the boundary of farm property. This wall is found after a moderately steep, switchback ascent from the powerline area. 12/10/2001 |

Hatchett Hill / Metacomet - Farm Stone Foundation Just past the first stone wall on the trail, this rectangular shape marks the foundation of a very small, very old farmhouse. Further up the trail(to the left in this image) there is reputed to be a 1770s era smallpox victim's graveyard where as many as 8 people may have been interred (Thanks to Tom Howard, E. Granby Historical Society for information on the graveyard). 12/10/2001 |

Hatchett Hill / Metacomet - The Path Beyond The Wall Looking back along the trail after a few turns and a gradual ascent from the stone wall that marks the old farm boundary. On this early winter day, the sun is to the south, and shines almost directly along the ridge. 12/10/2001 |
