Mount Tom - Metacomet / Monadnock Ridge

 The tip of a long ridge at the southwest end of a massive arc of cliffs and slopes, marked with highly visible communication towers, long ago the home of a resort hotel.

Mt. Tom - Metacomet - Mt. Tom Summit

The summit of Mt. Tom is marked with a large number of towers and antennae. While some my find this presence of man disconcerting, as with the windmill, we think it adds interest and variety to this already spectacular trail.

Mt. Tom / Metacomet - The Flag Flies Here, Too

It is less than three months since the atrocities of Sept 11. Even here, on the summit of Mt. Tom, we find evidence of the patriotism and defiance of the American people.

Mt. Tom / Metacomet - Railings At Last

Many years ago, the summit of Mt. Tom was host to a large hotel (shown in this postcard). There are very few remnants of that time (the early 1900s), but this sidewalk is one of them. It offers a stunning view to the south and west, and is, itself, an interesting contrast.
