Appalachian Trail: Stratton ME to NH - Sugarloaf Mountain Looking Toward Spaulding Mountain
The view from the Sugarloaf summit looks south west along the Mt Abraham ridge toward Spaulding Mountain.
At over 4200 feet, this summit is above treeline. The bushes are low krummholz - typically black cedar, spruce and other varieties of conifer. They are usually hundreds of years old, growing very slowly in the intense weather of the mountain tops.
Ara is making her way down from the summit toward the ridge.

West Peak / Metacomet Trail - Summit View Southeast
Looking in the general direction of the city of Meriden, CT, this view to the southeast also shows the east ridge of West Peak and the ravine we just climbed to reach the summit. Just over the edge straight ahead, the cliff drops off ten or twenty feet to a nice ledge with excellent views that should be reached by bushwhacking from the trail in the ravine.
