The trail begins in a park to the south of Cannon Mountain, and threads its way up the valley wall heading west.

This tree apparently grew up on top of this boulder and eventually just enveloped it.

Lonesome Lake - Slanting Tree and Faint Stream

This tree is one of several on the lower section of the trail that seem to be partly undermined. A thin thread of stream feeds into a more substantial brook below.

The trail gets rockier as it rises.

Lonesome Lake - Packed Dirt Trail

The trail undergoes many variations on its way between the base and the first major switchback. Here, it is dirt. It continues to run right along the edge of a large drop.
