Mount Greylock / Jones Nose - Spiral Grain
An unusual spiral structure marks the wood of this bark stripped trunk beside the trail. A burl is visible near the top of the frame.

Mount Greylock / Jones Nose - Field Of Ferns
This field of ferns can be seen to the east of the trail. All of the ferns seem to be the same age, and the conditions seem perfect only for ferns.

Mount Greylock / Jones Nose - Intersection of the AT and CCC
The intersection of the Appalachian Trail and the CCC Trail is well marked, but a map is still helpful. Sue checks hers to make sure we are heading the right way.

Mount Greylock / Jones Nose - Unidentified Mushroom
This mushroom, possibly a strangely growing Artist's Conk or Tinder Polypore, shows none of its upper surface, which appears to be fully attached to the trunk. The pores are the home of the spores to reproduce the fungus, most of which is in webs enbedded in the wood. The pore surface shows a variety of scars from unknown causes. Some of these mushrooms regrow every year, renewing their surface with a new layer and muting the scars.
