Sue stops for a bit of water and food as we pause near the southern end of the ridgetop. The gnarled tree behind her is characteristic of this section of the trail.

An unusual spiral structure marks the wood of this bark stripped trunk beside the trail. A burl is visible near the top of the frame.

This field of ferns can be seen to the east of the trail. All of the ferns seem to be the same age, and the conditions seem perfect only for ferns.
