Peak Mountain / Metacomet Trail - Just On The Ridge At The South End

A flat trail section looks toward one of many thin layered sandstone boulders. Early winter trees let in low slanting yellow light onto the leaves.

After a steep rise on the flank of the hill, the trail flattens out for most of the rest of its run. This early winter view along the trail is typical, showing the relatively mature forest, the shallow rise topography, and one of many thinly layered sandstone boulders, remnant of a sandstone layer in the predominantly volcanic rock of Peak Mountain.
