Appalachian Trail / Mount Katahdin - Alpine Plateau

A rocky landscape with low plants and a cairn in the distance, with the fog hiding the greater distance.

Small alpine flowers and tufted plants sheltering between rocks are characteristic of the Katahdin alpine plateau. The fog, of course, is cloud, and though it can't be seen in the image, winds are 30-40 mph

The cairn in the distance helps hikers follow the trail even in these low visibility conditions.
