Mount Wachusett / Balance Rock - Balance Rock

A pair of rocks, the bottom one like a steep truncated pyramid, the top one like a house, piled improbably atop each other.

Balance Rock is a glacial remnant, totaling about 20 feet in height (a person comes up to about the join in the rocks. The rocks may have been "stacked" as the glacier melted or (more likely) are the only two remaining of a boulder field shifted or scattered by the glacier. Some of those rocks may be the ones surrounding the clearing. In the 19th century, one could see the valley from this location.
