Purgatory Chasm - The Main Section of the Chasm

Cliffs on both sides slump into a hundred foot wide opening, with a couple of trees siring from the rubble.

This view, looking south from the north end of the chasm, shows the main section of this glacial feature. The sign on the tree to the right warns that rock climbing requires a permit. Hikers give scale to this opening in the earth that some scientists think was produced as glaciers plucked huge rocks from the ground and carried them away.
