Heublein Tower / Metacomet - The Tower from Below

The white rectangular tower with its brown trim and pyramid shaped peak looms above a wall of weathered basalt.

The Heublein Tower is one of the historic landmarks of Connecticut and one of the most distinctive landmarks on the Metacomet. It is open to the public for a portion of the year, covering spring, summer and fall. "...built in 1914 at the high point of the ridge, some 980 feet above sea level... a very tall summer house, with living and dining rooms, bedrooms, sleeping porches, baths, kitchen and servants' quarters... It rises 165 feet above the ridge and was built by Gilbert F. Heublein, who, with his brother Louis, had taken the family hotel and saloon business in Hartford and turned it into a successful international purveyor of food and liquor." (Connecticut Magazine)

The tower is maintained by the Friends Of Heublein Tower.
