Lost Pond Trail - Great Blue Heron with Food
Moments after catching a fish or frog, the heron swims toward the shore, its prey still struggling against finality. The heron has a bit of an effort to orient the prey so that it can be swallowed, but manages the task without dropping it. The prey is swallowed whole and the heron washes it down with a drink of water.

Lost Pond Trail - The Moose Steps From The Pond
At the northwest end of the pond, the female moose we had watched moving slowly north, feeding as it waded or swam, finally walks slowly up to the shore and departs into the woods.

Lost Pond Trail - A View Of Huntington Ravine
Huntington Ravine is a massive remain of the last glaciers in New England. A glacial cirque, it shows the typical bowl shape, and is extremely steep - some of the most difficult trails in the White Mountains ascend its slopes.
The Huntington Ravine Trail rises almost directly above the tall tree on the right side of the line of foreground trees.

Lost Pond Trail - Next to Last Bridge
Nearly out of the woods, the Lost Pond Trail reaches this simple plank bridge. After a long day of hiking the smooth dirt trail is a blessing.
