Lowe`s Bald Spot - Curling Clouds in Huntington Ravine This closeup shows the exciting texture of the clouds formed by a strong westerly wind. At this point, the winds are averaging 30-40 miles per hour and the temperature is in the 70s. With wind chill, it feels near freezing, even here, at only about 3000 feet of altitude. At the summit, the temperature is probably more like 50, with wind speeds even higher and wind chill even colder. See also… 7/28/2003 |

Lowe`s Bald Spot - View Toward Huntington Ravine This view to the south shows the kind of weather effect that the White Mountains generate from thrusting up thousands of feet into the sky - streamers of clouds torn from the summits.
