Mount Toby / Loop Trail - Open Forest This younger section of the forest shows evidence of a past disturbance - perhaps fire, or farming. The trees are of uniform height and youth, with a stratified understory of still younger trees not yet choked off by the shadow of the developing canopy. See also… 6/1/2002 |

Mount Toby / Loop Trail - Hygrocygbe cantharellus This very young Chanterelle Waxcap was found just beside the trail, nestled in a pad of bright new moss. The size of the mushroom can be told from the tiny hemlock needles that are nearly its size. See also… 6/1/2002 |
