Great Gulf Trail - Flat Section Of Trail

The trail on the west of the Peabody River is very flat and wide on its lower sections - two can walk abreast in this section. The photographer was overtaken by a head-height, fast flying beetle just after this image was taken.

After Jack-In-The-Pulpit loses its pink orchid-like flower, this is the plant left behind.

A yellowish brown slug on a yellowish brown and white mushroom, amidst fleshy green leaves mottled with brown, red, purple and grey specks.

Great Gulf Trail - Slug on a 'Shroom

Slugs love to eat mushrooms. You can see where it has rasped the upper surface. The bite mark in the foreground may be from a red squirrel.

A rugged rooty trail crosses a dry drainage tributary that leads to the river on the left.

This section of the trail is somewha rough and is crosses by streams that lead into the Peabody River.

Small, rough red mushrooms with bites taken out revealing a yellowish flesh. The stalks are rough and whitish, reddening toward the top, growing from moss beside a pine root.

Great Gulf Trail - Suillus pincus

These Painted Suillus mushrooms are found very specifically under Eastern White Pine.
