 A short hike near the Wildcat Ski Area across from Pinkham Notch. A wonderful though not always easy trail with many pretty cascades.

Thompson Falls - Brown Water and Slime On The Rocks

This narrow tiny stream in a very moist area shows the low forms of life that live in this area, including brown algae, green algae, moss and various small plants.

The trail crosses this service road before plunging into the woods again.

The trail parallels a stream, and from here one can look down on it from about ten or fifteen feet up.

A stick on the ground crosses the frame, with a collection of shredded pine cone fragments on the ground beside it.

Thompson Falls - Where A Squirrel Ate

This is one of the signs of the ubiquitous red squirrel, who, earlier, must have sat on this stick to eat a pine cone.

Two brown domed mushroom caps peek out from clover. The bright green clover leaves are about the same size as the mushroom caps.

This may be a Psathyrella species growing in a nest of clover.
